Suspect held after possible poisoning of Game Of Thrones video game tycoon

A suspect has been detained over the potential poisoning of the billionaire founder of a Chinese company that makes a Game Of Thrones video game, police in Shanghai have said.

Lin Qi, 39, who died on Christmas Day, was the founder and chief executive of Yoozoo, a Chinese entertainment company best known for developing the Game Of Thrones: Winter Is Coming strategy game.

According to a police statement, a 39-year-old co-worker identified by the surname Xu has been detained.

The statement added that Mr Lin had been hospitalised on 17 December and diagnosed with possible poisoning, but gave no other details.

According to Chinese business magazine Caixin, the suspect works in Yoozoo’s film division and was working on an adaptation of the popular science-fiction novel The Three-Body Problem.

Mr Lin was among his homeland’s richest entrepreneurs, with a net worth estimated at 6.8 billion yuan (£773m) by the Harun Report, which follows China’s wealthy.

He had founded Yoozoo – also known as Youzu Interactive – in 2009 and news reporting his death received 300 million views on the Chinese social media network Weibo.

A tribute to him from Yoozoo, signed by staff, stated: “You saw through what was imperfect but still believed in beauty; encountered unkindness but still believed in kindness.

“Together, we will continue to be kind, continue to believe in beauty, and continue to fight against all that is unkind.”
